Welcome!
My name is Dawn Chaffey, welcome to my website.
I worked for many years as a Registered Nurse and Complementary Therapist and since 2010 I have worked as a Counsellor.
Since 2014 I have also offered Psychotherapy.
Through listening to many people and through my own life experiences, I came to appreciate the value of Counselling for myself when coping with loss. I realised how Counselling and Psychotherapy can be used to support overall health and wellbeing.
I work in a comfortable room in Brixham, South Devon. My hope is to make counselling feel accessible by offering warmth, respect and a friendly, calm and welcoming environment. I will listen to any issue you bring without judgement. This enables a trusting therapeutic relationship to develop. I will always respect your concerns, thoughts and feelings so that you can share, explore and work through any difficulties you may have.
I work as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist and adopt a holistic approach to health, which considers care of the whole person. People may choose to come for Counselling for a whole range of issues, or maybe just to have someone listen and simply talk things through. As a nurse, I gained much experience working with people with disabilities and with carers. I have also been a carer myself for many years.
Integrative counselling, as the name suggests, is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. Rather, each person needs to be considered as a whole and counselling techniques must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances.
In addition to the above, I also offer Reiki.
Lightmind-Therapies offers a space to help you get back to your natural self. I work in helping people work through their difficulties and help them access their innate positive potential, so that they can take responsibility in choosing to make changes and so live a more fulfilling life. I believe we all have the ability to face our difficulties and that we all have a unique capacity to heal ourselves.
“It can be our greatest gift to ourselves, to give ourselves the opportunity to explore what we want in life and how we would like our life to be. Becoming aware of limiting thought patterns and unwanted behaviours and exploring where these have come from can bring a sense of enormous relief and release.”
